Being Flynn
With the current Hollywood movie lineup of remakes and tired movie plot, audiences are craving for something larger-than-life or sensibly great to watch. Hopefully this epic movie that will be coming to theaters near you is the heart wrenching movie, Being Flynn will be the one. It is starred by the great movie icon Robert De Niro arguably one of the most successful actors in Hollywood today, as he portrays Jonathan a father and also an eccentric struggling writer. This movie will show the trials and tribulations of life and give to the meaning that we are all works in progress. It is a one life story that will tackle the intricacies of being an artistic human being and coping with the daily struggles in life. The movie is touted to be a family drama- comedy and with Paul Weitz as the director this would be definitely a must see movie.
The trailer shows a great deal of sad emotion that will captivate the audience who loves a good drama. Backed by a great background soundtrack, it sets the mood of the film. It will be a great thing to watch on how two great actors, De Niro and Dano, can work together and make one great movie. As always, De Niro looks fantastic and Dano plays a strong character which is great should I say. The trailer should have shown more on Juliann Moore so that it could give hindsight on what extent is her role in the movie.
Seeing the trailer somehow just shows the drama side of the movie and never at all shows the comedy part that the director/ screenplay Paul Weitz is popular for. But with the great acting of Robert De Niro, we might be shocked on how this movie will turn out to be.
We all know that sometimes the trailer does not entirely depict the tone of the movie but somehow it gives us the idea the mood of the movie. Based on the trailer, I hope that the movie does not go way overboard in putting too much sentiment on the movie. The right sentiment would just be enough to have this thing working.
The plot of father and son has long been a great formula on Hollywood movies. It is a good tearjerker and hopefully Pal Weitz can capture the emotion of it.
The supporting casts that comprise Juliann Moore, Paul Dano, Olivia Thirlby and Dale Dicky are all superb actor/actresses that would give justice to the movie. Since this is based on a true story, this movie would tackle real life troubles and eliminate fairy tale mood of the story. Movies that are based on a true story have been generally a hit and miss. Hopefully with the right characters (great actors) it will bring success just like the previous movie, Moneyball, that starred Brad Pitt.
The movie is up for a spring 2012 release but the exact date has not yet been announced. This is based on the memoir Another Bullshit Night in Suck City by Nick Flynn.
